Cumhuriyet newspaper News Manager Can Uğur has announced that an investigation has been launched against him due to his reports bringing striking allegations regarding the High School Entrance Exam (LGS) to the agenda.

Uğur, who reported on allegations that some questions were shared via social media and messaging applications before the LGS exam held on June 15 had even finished, is now preparing to face the judiciary because of these reports.

In the report signed by Uğur and published in Cumhuriyet newspaper on June 25, it was claimed that verbal test questions were circulated in WhatsApp groups while the first session of the exam was ongoing, and numerical test questions were circulated while the second session was in progress. The report also included assessments regarding serious vulnerabilities in exam security.

"I DO NOT FEEL THE SLIGHTEST REGRET"

Making a statement on his social media account following the investigation decision, Can Uğur used the following expressions:

"I learned that an investigation has been launched against me following my reports exposing the scandals in the LGS. I will go and give my statement shortly. I do not feel the slightest regret for defending the rights of nearly 1 million of our children."

While Uğur's statement has brought serious debates regarding press and expression freedom to the fore, the fact that journalists who report on ensuring justice in education are facing the threat of prosecution has been criticized.
