Minimum wage insider info from journalist Deniz Zeyrek: 'If there were an election, the situation would be different'

Millions of minimum wage earners, who did not receive a mid-year raise in July, have turned their eyes and ears to the rate of the increase to be implemented in January.

Journalist Deniz Zeyrek shared the insider information he obtained regarding the minimum wage increase on the Para Politika program on Sözcü TV.

Zeyrek stated that the minimum wage in 2025 is estimated to be 22,500 TL. Zeyrek included the following statements in his remarks:

"Or rather, I know that this is being discussed. For the purchasing power of the 17,002 TL minimum wage as of January 1, 2024, to be equal again on January 1, 2025, it needs to be raised to 25,000 TL. If we raise it to 25,000 liras, we would have already equalized it based on purchasing power.

This is not a raise; it is giving the worker back the difference in purchasing power. Since this will not be a raise, there is no question of it triggering inflation. Mehmet Şimşek, the Central Bank Governor, and his deputies all know this better than any of us.

But unfortunately, since there is no election or anything like that, this is already our people's biggest disadvantage right now. If there were an election, the situation would be different. They would have made it 30,000 TL or even 32,000 TL. The information I have is that there will be a minimum wage around 22,000 - 22,500 liras."
