Journalist Doğu Eroğlu announced that Dost had been detained.
Eroğlu shared the following on his social media account:
"Our journalist colleague Hazar Dost was detained this evening at 19:30, citing a protest he attended in 2018 as the reason.
It appears his statement was missing in a case file for which a decision had previously been made but was returned by the appellate court. It was explained to the duty prosecutor that he would go to give a statement whenever requested, but this was deemed risky.
In short, he will spend the night in custody at the police station and will give his statement at the Küçükçekmece Courthouse tomorrow. He is in good health and good spirits. He recounts that four police officers suddenly entered the greengrocer where he was shopping in the neighborhood and took him to the station. In other words, this was not a standard ID check procedure; he was likely detained after being flagged by a facial recognition system. Just another addition to the wave of detentions ahead of the NATO Summit."
