WHO IS HİKMET ÇETİNKAYA?
Born in 1942 in the Edremit district of Balıkesir, Hikmet Çetinkaya completed his high school education at Manisa Boys' High School before beginning his journalistic journey as a reporter at Cumhuriyet newspaper. Making a name for himself in a short time with interviews he conducted in different regions of Turkey, Çetinkaya drew attention with his productivity in the profession starting from 1966.
Having been deemed worthy of many awards throughout his journalistic career, Çetinkaya won the Hasan Tahsin Award presented by the İzmir Journalists Association in 1968, 1970, and 1971. In 1975, he was deemed worthy of the Press Award by the Turkish Language Association. Çetinkaya, who also served as the İzmir representative for Cumhuriyet newspaper, continued to meet with his readers through his columns starting from 1986.
Leaving a mark not only in the field of journalism but also in the literary world, Çetinkaya reached a wide readership with the books he authored. In 2014, he was deemed worthy of the Burhan Felek Press Service Award by the Turkish Journalists Association for his professional life spanning over 50 years and his contributions to the press.
