The Presidential Directorate of Communications has cancelled the press card of journalist İsmail Arı. Officials from the Directorate of Communications cited Arı's "criminal record" as the reason.
According to BirGün, officials from the Directorate of Communications verbally informed Arı that, "Your press card has been cancelled due to your criminal record," however, it was learned that Arı does not have a criminal record or any judicial case in which he has been convicted.
"I HAVE NO CONVICTIONS"
İsmail Arı also shared the following statements on his X account regarding the matter:
"I was held in prison for 75 days simply for doing journalism. While I was in prison, the Directorate of Communications cancelled my press card. The reason given was that my 'criminal record' was not suitable. I do not even have a single case in which I have been convicted. I congratulate those who cancel the press card of a journalist who was thrown into prison solely for their professional activities."
