Journalist Metin Cihan's statement on 'trade with Israel': 'It does not reflect the truth!'

Following the reactions to the attacks launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip on October 7, the Ministry of Trade had imposed export restrictions on certain product groups with Israel. Journalist Metin Cihan said, "If you are imposing sanctions, then actually impose them. Do not pretend to be imposing them."

Following the recent reactions to trade between Turkey and Israel, the Ministry of Trade had imposed export restrictions on 54 product groups. 

Journalist Metin Cihan announced on his social media account that the Ministry of Trade's "trade restriction" statement does not reflect the truth. Cihan stated, "We meet almost all of Israel's cement needs," and added, "If you are imposing sanctions, then actually impose them. Do not pretend to be imposing them."

"WE CONTINUE TO SEND CEMENT TO ISRAEL"

Cihan's statements are as follows: 

"They lied to us. Unfortunately, I have determined that the Ministry of Trade's statement on 'restricting trade with Israel' does not reflect the truth. I am presenting the evidence below. As you know, one of the products we regularly send to Israel was cement. We can even say that we meet almost all of Israel's cement needs. In the content of the decision to restrict trade with Israel, which the Ministry of Trade announced on April 9, 54 products were listed, and cement was included in this list. Today, I clearly see and show that, despite the official statement, we continue to send cement to Israel.

"DO NOT PRETEND TO BE IMPOSING THEM"

One of the companies that regularly sends cement is Akçansa, which is affiliated with Sabancı Holding. The Turkish ship named Kazime Ana, which departed from the Akçansa port in Çanakkale yesterday, is currently continuing its journey in the Aegean Sea and its destination is Israel. In two days, it will arrive at the port of Ashdod and deliver the cement. Many ships from Akçansa carry cement to Israel. Kazime Ana is just one of them and has made shipments to Israel 168 times so far. It travels regularly between Çanakkale and Ashdod. All the information I have provided can be verified from international maritime traffic records. I have also shared the screenshots. Given the clarity of the information, I do not think the @ticaret ministry or the shipping company @akcansa will attempt to deny it, but I want you to know that if they make any statement, I will share it here. On behalf of the public, I demand this from Minister of Trade @omerbolatTR: Put an end to this hypocrisy and deceiving the public. Clearly state that trade with Israel, including the products you listed, continues. If you are imposing sanctions, then actually impose them. Do not pretend to be imposing them."
