New statement from Justice Minister Tunç regarding 'Eros the Cat'

The killing of a cat named Eros, who was cared for by residents of a housing complex, and the subsequent release of Keloğlan due to "good conduct" had sparked widespread outrage on social media for a long time.
Residents and animal rights activists held protests in front of his home for days, issued press statements, and expressed their reactions on social media.
Appearing as a guest on a live broadcast on TV100, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated that AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan called him regarding the matter and asked, "How can such a thing happen?"
Regarding İbrahim Keloğlan, who brutally murdered the cat named Eros and was released with a deferment of the announcement of the verdict, Tunç said, "Our President called me, asking, 'How can such a thing happen?'"
Minister Tunç made the following remarks on the subject:
"I could not watch that video about Eros the cat until the end. I closed it while it was playing. Here, the individual remained in custody for 1 month, and subsequently, a verdict was reached, and a decision was made to defer the announcement of the verdict. Our Public Prosecutor's Office immediately filed an objection, and as a result of the objection, the High Criminal Court overturned the decision; the trial will begin again.
In fact, our President called me regarding this matter, asking, 'How can such a thing happen?' We are all sensitive about this issue.
He received a sentence, and there is a mechanism for the deferment of the announcement of the verdict. Our President stated that this has no place in the public conscience. Our President is following it personally."
WHAT HAPPENED?
İbrahim Keloğlan, who cornered and kicked the cat Eros to death in an elevator on New Year's Eve in Başakşehir, had been sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for the crime of "Intentional Killing of a Pet."
However, Keloğlan was released after the announcement of the verdict was deferred.
Later, the objection filed by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the decision was accepted by the High Criminal Court, and it was decided that Keloğlan would be retried.
