It has emerged that many people arrested and sent to Silivri as part of the IMM investigation have been transferred to Çorlu, Tekirdağ, and Kocaeli. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç has issued a statement regarding the transfers, which have drawn criticism.
It was revealed that some individuals at Silivri Prison, including Murat Ongun, Hüseyin Köksal, Tuncay Yılmaz, Fatih Keleş, and Necati Özkan, have been transferred to Çorlu, Tekirdağ, and Kocaeli.
The transfer procedures have drawn criticism, most notably from IMM President and CHP Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu. Following the reactions, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made a statement on the matter.
Tunç used the following expressions in his statement:
"Within the framework of the judicial investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into suspects, including executives of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, 14 detainees held in Marmara Penal Execution Institutions have been transferred to different penal execution institutions in accordance with Article 53 of the Law on the Execution of Penal and Security Measures, in order to ensure the healthy conduct of the investigation processes and to maintain security order in the penal execution institutions. The assessments put forward by some circles regarding the transfer procedures, claiming that 'the right to defense is being restricted,' are untrue and intended to mislead the public. This practice has been carried out in accordance with the relevant legislation for the purpose of conducting the investigation in a fair and effective manner."
