Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated in a post on his social media account, "The pain of our child Atlas Çağlayan, who lost his life as a result of a knife attack in Istanbul's Güngören district, has scorched all of our hearts.

I pray for God's mercy upon our child Atlas; I extend my condolences and patience to his family, loved ones, and our dear nation. The investigation into this tragic incident has been carried out meticulously and in all its aspects by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office from the very first moment. Within the scope of the investigation, the suspect was taken into custody for the crime of 'intentional killing' and has been arrested by judicial authorities.

Furthermore, 3 suspects who were taken into custody on the grounds that they threatened the family of our child Atlas have also been arrested for the crime of 'qualified threat.' No one should have any doubt that the investigation and trial processes will be conducted with great sensitivity and that the perpetrator or perpetrators will receive the punishment they deserve. Preventing violence, implementing deterrent sanctions against crime, and protecting our children and youth is a vital responsibility for us," he said.

Stating that the work of the commission established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to examine all dimensions of the causes leading children to be dragged into crime is ongoing, Minister Tunç said, "The Research Commission established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey continues its work with the aim of examining all dimensions of the causes leading children to be dragged into crime, strengthening protective and preventive mechanisms, and ensuring that our children are supported in a healthy way within their education, family, and social environment so that they can participate effectively in social life.

In line with the findings that the commission will present, as the Ministry of Justice, we will implement our work regarding regulations in both our Turkish Penal Code and relevant legislation without delay, and we will take the necessary steps with a determination that will strengthen the peace and security of our dear nation.

In order to prevent such painful incidents from happening again, we will continue our fight without interruption against street gangs trying to disrupt public order, mindsets that praise violence, and all kinds of structures that threaten society," he said.
