Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announces: New regulation for the sale of vehicles in impound lots!

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that with the amendment made within the scope of the 9th Judicial Package, the sales procedure for vehicles that have been impounded and removed from traffic under the Highway Traffic Law, and which are currently in impound lots but have not been claimed by their owners or whose owners cannot be reached, will be simplified.

The statement from the Ministry recalled that the legislative proposal, known in the public as the 9th Judicial Package, was accepted and enacted by the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

The statement noted that within the scope of the changes, regulations have been made to the sales procedure for vehicles in impound lots that were removed from traffic and have not been claimed or sought by their owners within 6 months, in accordance with the current first paragraph of the additional 14th article of the Highway Traffic Law No. 2918.

Minister Tunç, who made a statement regarding the new regulation, said, "The sales procedure for vehicles that have been impounded and removed from traffic under the Highway Traffic Law, and which are currently in impound lots but have not been claimed by their owners or whose owners cannot be reached, will be simplified. Furthermore, it will be ensured that the amount obtained from the sale of these vehicles is paid to the rightful owners, or if it cannot be paid to the rightful owners, it will be kept in custody for the purpose of being paid to them later."

Noting that this will both allow the vehicles in question to be brought back into the economy without losing their value and ensure that the rights of the rightful owners are protected in the best possible way, Tunç stated that the regulation accepted in 2023 also enabled the liquidation and economic recovery of goods that were kept in impound warehouses under the Enforcement and Bankruptcy Law but for which there was no longer a legal need for storage.

Minister Tunç assessed, "With the implementation within the scope of the communiqué published by our Ministry regarding this regulation, the liquidation of 15 thousand 259 vehicles has been completed so far, and the liquidation process for 4 thousand 14 vehicles is ongoing. With the change made, this process will become even easier."
