Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç has reacted to the portrayal of a prison guard in the Arka Sokaklar series, which airs on Kanal D.

In a post on his social media account, Minister Tunç announced that 'necessary administrative and legal examinations and investigations' will be launched.

Tunç's post is as follows;

“It is unacceptable to broadcast scenes in a TV series that are aimed at smearing and offending our prison officers serving in our Penal Execution Institutions.

Let no one have any doubt that the necessary administrative and legal examinations and investigations will be carried out regarding such broadcasts targeting our penal execution personnel, who perform their duties selflessly within the framework of laws and regulations.”

CONDEMNATION FROM THE GENERAL DIRECTORATE OF PRISONS AND DETENTION HOUSES

In a statement made by the Ministry of Justice's General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses, it was stated that personnel working in penal execution institutions perform their duties in full compliance with fundamental human rights, international conventions, and national legislation, and the following was noted:

"However, it is impossible for us to accept the scenes in the TV series 'Arka Sokaklar', which go beyond fiction and cast suspicion on our prison officers, and which are incompatible with their professional responsibilities.

We condemn the aforementioned broadcasts that smear our institutions and our personnel who work selflessly day and night, and which target them far beyond the limits of criticism."
