Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç responds to questions about torture of detained youth

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made statements regarding the request for a meeting at İmralı and the current status of Mahir Polat.

Stating that no request for a meeting has been received from the DEM Party, Tunç said the following:

'There were requests from relatives for meetings regarding İmralı. These meetings were facilitated. They held holiday visits. The DEM Party has no institutional request for a meeting.'

Speaking on the question regarding Mahir Polat, Yılmaz Tunç said, 'I have made statements about Mahir Polat before. He has had complaints since his first day in prison. Doctors have performed the necessary check-ups. He was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute. The Forensic Medicine Institute requested the necessary examinations. The Forensic Medicine Institute will make a decision regarding this.'

'WE WILL PURSUE IT WITH DETERMINATION'

Responding to a question about the protests following the ruling against İmamoğlu, Tunç claimed that the person who incited the events was Özgür Özel. Tunç also addressed the allegations of violence against the youth in prison.

''Unfortunately, the CHP Chairman made a call to the streets at the beginning of the investigation in Istanbul. Some of the youth came face to face with security forces. Unwanted incidents occurred. The reason for these events is the call made by the CHP leader. As a result of these events, there were detentions. Arrest warrants were issued for 278 people. Detention pending trial is an exception, and the number of judicial control options is [high].''

If there are such examples regarding our youth, we will pursue them with determination. Serious disinformation has been spread in the public eye. There is currently an ongoing judicial process.
