At Ayser Çalık Secondary School in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş, 14-year-old 8th-grade student İsa Aras Mersinli lost his life after firing into two classrooms with 5 guns he carried in his bag and subsequently being stabbed in the leg by a parent.

In the initial moments of the attack, 9 people, including eight students and one teacher, lost their lives, while 20 others were injured. The attacker's father, Uğur Mersinli, a former Intelligence Branch Director of the Diyarbakır Police Department, was arrested as part of the investigation.

It was learned that the father, Mersinli, is currently a 1st Class Police Chief and Police Chief Inspector.

Following the father, the mother, Peyman Pınar Mersinli, who is a teacher at Sevim Şırıkçı Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Dulkadiroğlu district, was also taken into custody.

According to information obtained, it was learned that Baydur's step to leave his post following the attack, which plunged the educational community into mourning and brought security debates to the forefront, took place through a "mutually reached decision" as a result of evaluations made with the Ministry of National Education (MEB).
