Kahramanmaraş tarhana receives EU registration
According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Maraş tarhana and Edremit Gulf green scratched olives, which were published in the Official Journal of the EU 3 months ago, have been granted EU Geographical Indication registration following the conclusion of the objection periods.

Kahramanmaraş's famous tarhana and the Edremit Gulf's green scratched olives have received geographical indication registration from the European Union (EU). It has become a source of morale after the earthquake.
MARAŞ TARHANA IS THE 16TH PRODUCT
Maraş tarhana, a unique product in terms of its high nutritional value, components, production, and different consumption methods, has become Turkey's 16th product to hold an EU Geographical Indication registration.
EDREMIT GULF'S 2ND PRODUCT
The Edremit Gulf green scratched olive, which is the 2nd product from the Edremit Gulf to be registered by the EU, has become Turkey's 17th product to hold an EU Geographical Indication registration. The statement recalled that Edremit olive oil had previously received EU registration from the region. It was noted that the sweetening of the Edremit Gulf green scratched olive is done in natural drinking water and that no chemical or heat treatment is applied in any way.
IT WILL BE A MORALE BOOSTER
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated in a written announcement that both Kahramanmaraş and the Edremit Gulf have received Geographical Indication registration from the EU for the 2nd time, saying, "Geographical indications will add abundance to the fertile lands of Kahramanmaraş and the Edremit Gulf. Our producers will earn more while protecting their products. Especially for our Kahramanmaraş, which experienced the disaster of the century, receiving registration for Maraş tarhana will be a morale booster for our beautiful city and will contribute to its development. May it be auspicious."
THE NUMBER OF GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS WILL INCREASE
Minister Yumaklı emphasized that they are working intensively with stakeholder institutions to increase the number of geographical indications and thanked those who contributed.
