Kemal Anadol reacts to the attack on CHP leader Özgür Özel: 'The incident cannot be brushed off with condemnation'
Kemal Anadol, President of the Kemalist Enlightenment Association who served as a deputy and group deputy chairman for four terms in the CHP, emphasized that the attack on CHP leader Özgür Özel cannot be brushed off with mere condemnation.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel was attacked while leaving the AKM following a ceremony held for DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder.
It was revealed that Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked Özel, had a criminal record for killing 2 children and injuring 2 others in 2004, as well as for threats and theft, and that he had been released on parole in 2020 despite having received a life sentence.
While messages of condemnation from political figures followed the attack on Özel, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also called Özel to convey his get-well wishes.

As the treacherous attack remains on the agenda, Kemalist Enlightenment Association President Kemal Anadol made statements.
Anadol, who previously served as a deputy and group deputy chairman in the CHP for four terms, recalled that an attack was also carried out against the CHP's 2nd Chairman İsmet İnönü by Democrat Party members 66 years ago.
Stating that the attack on Özel cannot be brushed off with condemnation, Anadol noted the following:

"The incident cannot be brushed off by condemning the attack on CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. The first thing that comes to mind is the lynching attempt against the then-Chairman Kılıçdaroğlu. A cow thief who threw a punch was tried without arrest and given a reward-like sentence. The law of enmity and the practice of impunity must be scrutinized. Furthermore, the security weakness is also clearly evident. Mr. Özel's statement also carries a cool-headed and careful quality.
The incident shows that the CHP and its chairman are on the right path and that they are disturbing, and even frightening, the ruling power. It is an interesting and historical coincidence that today is also the anniversary of the attack carried out by Democrat Party members against CHP Chairman İsmet İnönü in Topkapı on May 4, 1959.
