Turkey is closely following the developments in the investigations conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

While an arrest warrant was issued for IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on corruption charges as part of the investigation, the request for his arrest within the framework of the terrorism investigation was rejected by the court.

During the hours when the court's decision was awaited, the CHP went to the polls in 81 provinces for a primary election to determine its presidential candidate.

Former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu voted for Ekrem İmamoğlu. He made statements to the press after casting his vote. In his statement, he said:

'I have already expressed that I am deeply saddened by what has happened. It is very difficult to live in a country where there is no democracy and where there is a regime of oppression. But CHP members have a duty, a duty to crown democracy in this country. We must fight for democracy, no matter the cost. There is never, ever any giving up or turning back. We must fight for democracy to the end, regardless of our age or our thoughts; democracy is the magic key that opens the door to every kind of thought. Democracy is a concept that applies not only to CHP members but to everyone living in this country. It is the duty of all of us to strengthen democracy. The massive Republic of Turkey cannot be surrendered to the whims of one person. The struggle for democracy is a sacred duty.'
