Following AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statement that "They deported Bay Kemal from the party with a dubious convention," the 7th Chairman of the CHP, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, had also stated, "If there is something, the party must absolutely be cleansed of corruption."

Subsequently, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into allegations that "votes were cast in exchange for money" at the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention held on November 4-5, 2023.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced that he had decided to hold an Extraordinary Convention on April 6 to eliminate the possibility of a "trustee being appointed" to the party.

As the convention approached, claims regarding a candidacy for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu emerged. In a statement on his X account on April 3, Kılıçdaroğlu announced that he would not be a candidate, stating, "It is not the threats of politicians who say 'If you become a candidate, they will spit in your face,' because it is the thieves whose faces are spat upon, and I did not steal."

Following this statement, whether Kılıçdaroğlu would attend the convention became a subject of curiosity.

According to a report by Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk, Kılıçdaroğlu was not going to attend the convention because he had not received an invitation; however, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel called the 7th Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu by phone yesterday around 14:30 and extended an invitation to the convention. Upon the invitation, Kılıçdaroğlu decided to attend the convention.
