Kemal Okuyan reacts to pro-government media on February 6: 'What will they not forget?'

Exactly 730 days ago, Turkey was once again reminded of the reality of earthquakes with the Kahramanmaraş-centered tremors. According to official figures, more than 53 thousand people lost their lives in the earthquakes. While many citizens are still living in containers, some earthquake survivors who wanted to commemorate their losses on the second anniversary of the disaster were detained. 

Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) General Secretary Kemal Okuyan reacted to media outlets close to the government for reporting on the earthquake in a distorted and incomplete manner. Okuyan said, "The pro-government media is also running headlines saying 'we will not forget' regarding the February 6 earthquake. I am genuinely curious, what is it that they will not forget?" 

Making statements via his social media account, Okuyan used the following expressions: 

'I AM GENUINELY CURIOUS, WHAT WILL THEY NOT FORGET?'

"The pro-government media is also running headlines saying 'we will not forget' regarding the February 6 earthquake. Let them not forget, but I wonder what they will remember?

The chain of negligence that was the product of a profit-oriented mentality, at odds with society, science, and humanity, within the order of holdings and religious sects before the earthquake? 

The irresponsibility of building massive cities on land suitable for agriculture but unsuitable for housing?

The ruthlessness of an exploitative order that forced our citizens to live in residences that put their lives at risk?

The public order where planning, inspection, and accountability were made a mockery of?

The destruction of public buildings, hospitals, and schools whose durability was expected to be under 'state guarantee'?

The incompetence and helplessness that emerged immediately after the earthquake and affected millions of our people?

The plight of hundreds of thousands of people who are still forced to live in containers two years later?

I am genuinely curious, what will they not forget?

We have not forgotten…
