The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched two separate investigations into the CHP-run Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).
As part of the investigation launched on allegations of 'terrorism' and 'corruption', İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained in a dawn operation.
İmamoğlu and the other suspects are accused of "acting in concert with the PKK" and "hiring PKK members" in the first investigation, and of corruption and bribery in the second. Seven people are named in the terrorism investigation, while 95 people are named in the corruption investigation.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the 7th Chairman of the CHP, reacted to the investigations launched into the İBB and the detention of Mayor İmamoğlu.
Sharing a post on his X account, Kılıçdaroğlu stated the following:
“This intervention against the national will, the rule of law, and democracy is unacceptable. Those who try to take revenge on the Republican People's Party have fallen from the eyes and hearts of the nation. Our search for rights, law, and justice will continue. I convey my feelings of support and solidarity to Mr. Ekrem.”
