Cumhuriyet columnist Barış Terkoğlu had claimed that a figure serving as an administrator in the CHP had met with former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and proposed, "Let's replace Özgür Özel with Ekrem İmamoğlu."

Speaking to Sözcü columnist Aytunç Erkin, former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu denied the claim that he had held a conversation supporting Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu to run against Özgür Özel as a candidate for the CHP chairmanship.

"I DO NOT WANT TO GET INVOLVED IN THESE DISCUSSIONS"

According to journalist Erkin, Kılıçdaroğlu stated, "I do not want to get involved in these discussions, Mr. Aytunç. Yes, we spoke with Mr. Ekrem during the holiday and exchanged holiday greetings. That was all. I find it difficult to understand where and how these rumors emerge."

According to Erkin, the İmamoğlu camp also said, "They made up a story that there was a dinner on June 26. A madman threw a stone into a well, and now there is a debate. They also invented something called an İmamoğlu-Kılıçdaroğlu alliance. One thing is very clear: İmamoğlu is the IMM Mayor; Özgür Özel is the chairman, and it will continue this way. These are nonsense."
