CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu visited Can Atalay, Osman Kavala, and Tayfun Kahraman, whose prison sentences in the Gezi Park case were upheld by the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation, at the Marmara Closed Penal Execution Institution, and Çiğdem Mater and Mine Özerden at the Bakırköy Women's Closed Prison.
“IF THE JUDICIARY IS UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE PALACE, IT WILL NOT RENDER A DECISION IN ACCORDANCE WITH JUSTICE”
Making statements after the visit, Kılıçdaroğlu noted the following:
"If a judiciary is under the control of the executive branch, that is, the Palace, that judiciary will not render a decision in accordance with justice. That judiciary will have rendered a decision in line with the demands of the Palace, that is, the executive branch.
No one should be tried for their thoughts. Is there any reason to fear thought? There is no democracy in this country, I am aware of that. I will not say all judges, but I also know that a significant portion of them consult with someone before making a decision. The main reason I am here was to announce to everyone that those decisions are wrong. There are conscientious people in this country, and I am appealing to the hearts of those conscientious people."
