Killer Delil Aysal in court: New development in the murder of taxi driver Oğuz Erge!

In the incident that took place in the Gaziemir district on January 31, 2024, taxi driver Oğuz Erge (44) was shot and killed with 3 bullets by his passenger, Delil Aysal (19), whom he had picked up so he wouldn't be cold.

The moment of the murder was captured by the vehicle's internal camera, and the footage left all of Turkey in mourning. The moments when the killer, who was heard saying, "You shouldn't trust some people," slapped the wounded taxi driver and then left the vehicle were captured on camera.

KILLER IN COURT: WATCHED THE FOOTAGE, CONFESSED

Killer Delil Aysal appeared before the 10th High Criminal Court, facing a potential aggravated life sentence for the charges of 'qualified intentional homicide,' 'qualified robbery,' and 'carrying an unlicensed firearm.' The hearing was attended by the detained defendant Delil Aysal, the lawyers of the parties, and the relatives of taxi driver Oğuz Erge.

Given the floor for his defense, killer Delil Aysal stated that he accepted the camera footage but claimed that the audio had been tampered with, saying, "I did not tell the taxi driver 'don't trust anyone.' I have psychological problems. I have been hospitalized for this reason. On the night of the incident, I had used narcotic pills and alcohol. There were 5 bullets in the gun; I used 3 on the taxi driver and 2 by firing into the air. I regret it."

PRESIDING JUDGE: "WHY DID YOU GET IN THE RIGHT DOOR AND MOVE BEHIND THE DRIVER?"

In court, the Urban Security Management System and in-vehicle camera footage from the day of the incident were also shown. The presiding judge asked Delil Aysal why he had moved to the left rear seat, which is in the driver's blind spot, despite entering the taxi through the right rear door on the day of the incident. The defendant claimed that he did not notice this at the time.

"I WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A SUBSTANCE"

In his defense, the defendant stated that he was under the influence of substances, saying, "My intention was not to cause harm. I was under the influence of substances. I had problems." When the court panel asked, "Did you take your frustrations out on others? You pull out your weapon even before the incident. Are you shooting to kill the victim or for pleasure? You stand over him for a long time. It is certain that Erge will die," the defendant Aysal claimed his intention was to kill himself.

Responding to questions regarding robbery allegations, Aysal said, "I did not take any money." When asked by the presiding judge why he took the taxi driver's phone, he claimed he took it to call his family and inform them of the situation.

"HE CALLED ME FROM MY FATHER'S PHONE AND DESCRIBED THE LOCATION"

Oğuz Erge's daughter, N.E. (16), also spoke in court. N.E. said, "He called me from my father's phone and described the location. He said he was seriously injured and told me to 'call an ambulance.' I first informed my mother, then my uncle; I am filing a complaint."

Nevra Karaman, who divorced Oğuz Erge 7 months ago, stated that despite their divorce, her ex-husband provided for their children, and that they are filing a complaint against the defendant.

"MY FATHER DID A GOOD DEED"

Oğuz Erge's son, Mustafa Erge, who is currently in prison for another crime, attended the hearing via SEGBİS and said, "The defendant says he wanted to commit suicide, but he gets into the taxi wearing a mask. Would someone intending to commit suicide worry about allergies? My father did a good deed. I have a lot to say, but I cannot say it in court. I am filing a complaint."

HIS LAWYER REQUESTED RELEASE PENDING TRIAL

Delil Aysal's lawyer also stated that the defendant had previously been hospitalized and requested that the court verify whether he possesses criminal liability. Arguing that there is no risk of the defendant fleeing, the lawyer requested that Aysal be released to stand trial without detention.

The court panel decided to obtain a report from the Manisa Mental Health and Diseases Hospital, where the defendant claimed to have received treatment, regarding whether he possesses criminal liability, and ordered that two witnesses who were scheduled to be heard today be brought to the next hearing by force, adjourning the trial to March 8, 2024.

Celil Anık: "WE ARE FOLLOWING THE CASE"

Following the hearing, İzmir Chamber of Drivers and Automobile Merchants President Celil Anık made a statement in front of the courthouse. Emphasizing that they will follow the case, Anık stated, "He is very cold-blooded; he does not accept certain things, he is a very brazen individual. Hopefully, he will receive the heaviest sentence at the next hearing."
