Killer who murdered 6 people in Mersin commits suicide
In the Tarsus and Çamlıyayla districts of Mersin, the suspect who shot and killed 6 people, including his ex-wife, ended his own life when he realized he was about to be captured in a house surrounded by gendarmerie teams.

In the incidents that took place yesterday in Mersin, Metin Ö. (37) went to the butcher shop and restaurant in Kadelli Neighborhood of Tarsus district, where he had worked about a year ago, and opened fire with a handgun. Employee Ahmet Ercan and business owner Sabri Pan lost their lives in the attack.
After the incident, the suspect fled the area in a white car with license plate 01 B 9171 and shot and killed truck driver Gökay Selfioğlu at a gas station in Yeniköy Neighborhood. The suspect then moved to Darıpınarı Neighborhood in Çamlıyayla district and shot his ex-wife, Arzu Özden, who was walking on the side of the road. The suspect also caused the death of Abdullah Koca by forcing the motorcycle he was riding in Yeniköy Neighborhood into a ditch.
Continuing his attacks, the suspect also killed Yusuf Oktay, who was working as a shepherd in Karakütük Neighborhood. During the events, 8 people along the route were also injured. The injured were taken to surrounding hospitals, primarily Tarsus State Hospital, for treatment.
Following the events in which 6 people lost their lives and 8 were injured, a large number of gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the region. During the helicopter-supported search operations, the car with license plate 01 B 9171 used by the suspect was found in the rural area of Karakütük Neighborhood.
COMMITTED SUICIDE UPON REALIZING HE WOULD BE CAPTURED
The operation to capture the suspect, who was believed to have fled into a wooded area, continued throughout the night. Gendarmerie teams determined that the suspect was hiding in a house in the Çokak locality of the rural Karakütük Neighborhood. During the operation, the suspect committed suicide with the weapon he had with him upon realizing he was about to be captured.
