Knife attack at iftar tent

A distressing attack occurred on the evening of February 20, 2026, at an iftar tent set up in the Gümüşpala Marketplace in the Bayraklı district of İzmir. Ramazan Aslan, the Cleaning Affairs Coordinator who is part of the close team of İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay, was stabbed in the leg and abdomen during an argument that broke out during the iftar meal.
Immediately following the incident, teams from the Bayraklı District Police Department's Crime Prevention and Investigation Bureau launched an investigation in the area. As a result of the examinations, 48-year-old L.E., who was identified as the perpetrator of the attack, was taken into custody by police teams.
Authorities stated that the investigation into the knife attack is ongoing, while noting that Ramazan Aslan was transported to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
