Knife attack on staff member at CHP stand in Trabzon: Governor's Office issues statement

The Trabzon Governor's Office has issued a statement regarding the injury of a person working at the CHP Provincial Youth Branch stand.

The Trabzon Governor's Office reported that a person working at a stand during a signature campaign organized by the Republican People's Party (CHP) Provincial Youth Branch was injured with a knife, and that the perpetrator of the attack has 3 prior criminal records.

In a written statement from the Governor's Office, it was stated that there was a need to inform the public regarding the incident that occurred on Maraş Street in the Ortahisar district.

The statement noted that a signature campaign was being held by the CHP Provincial Youth Branch, and the following was recorded:

"A verbal argument that began between individuals at the event area and a person named B.G., who had come from a different province and was working as a construction worker in our city, and who has 3 criminal records for 2 counts of negligent injury and one count of insulting the President, turned into a scuffle. During the incident, a stand staff member named F.A. was injured with a cutting tool above the knee. Our injured young person is not in life-threatening condition and has received the necessary medical intervention."

Pointing out that the suspect, who is considered to be the perpetrator of the incident, was taken into custody by security forces along with the knife used in the incident, the statement added:

"The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been informed and a judicial investigation has been initiated regarding the matter. Our police units and relevant authorities are working meticulously to clarify all aspects of the incident. As the Trabzon Governor's Office, we invite our citizens to exercise common sense against all kinds of provocative actions. All measures have been taken to protect peace and security in our city."
