KVKK announces number of TurkNet users whose data was stolen: Identity information also leaked
The Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK), in a statement regarding the theft of subscriber data from TurkNet, reported that the data of more than 200,000 subscribers was stolen. According to the KVKK's statement, critical data such as Turkish ID numbers and address information were among the stolen data.

The KVKK, which published an official statement regarding the data breach at internet service provider TurkNet, determined as a result of its investigations that the personal information of 244,396 subscribers had been leaked. It was noted that sensitive data such as full names, phone numbers, Turkish ID numbers, addresses, and subscription information were among the data exposed in the breach.
TurkNet had previously issued a statement after the breach allegations surfaced. Regarding the security violation detected on March 11, the company stated, 'Necessary technical and administrative measures have been increased, and security has been ensured.' The statement emphasized that the breach did not include customers' financial information or passwords, and that this information remains secure.
In the statement issued by the KVKK, details regarding the scope of the leaked data were shared. Accordingly, it was stated that personal data belonging to subscribers, such as full names, phone numbers, Turkish ID numbers, subscription circuit information, addresses, and static IP information, had been exposed. The authority noted that it is conducting coordinated work with relevant public institutions to identify those responsible for the breach and to initiate legal proceedings.
Addressing the measures taken after the breach, TurkNet stated, 'You can safely use our Online Transaction Center and mobile application with your existing passwords.' The company indicated that it would continue to inform its customers about developments regarding the process.
The KVKK and the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) announced that the necessary notifications regarding the breach have been made. The institutions stated that necessary steps are being taken to prevent similar violations. TurkNet reiterated that security measures for its customers have been increased and that its systems can be used securely.
