Landslide in Gebze narrowly avoids disaster: 7 trucks and 1 excavator swept away

A major landslide occurred in the morning hours at an excavation dumping site in the Gebze district of Kocaeli. During the work being carried out at the site, seven trucks and one excavator were moved and swept away by the force of the slide. While the drivers in the vehicles faced great danger due to the slide, one truck driver managed to get out of the vehicle, but the other drivers remained trapped inside their vehicles.

INTERVENTION BY TEAMS: DRIVERS RESCUED AT THE LAST MINUTE

Immediately after the incident, citizens in the vicinity noticed the situation and notified security forces. Fire, AFAD, medical, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene in a short time. The teams carried out a rapid intervention to rescue the trapped drivers. As a result of the rescue operation, all drivers were safely removed from the vehicles and taken away from danger.

INJURED WORKER TAKEN TO HOSPITAL, SECURITY MEASURES INCREASED

One of the workers who was in one of the vehicles during the incident was slightly injured. The injured worker was taken to the hospital after initial intervention by medical teams. Gendarmerie teams set up a security cordon around the incident area to ensure the safety of citizens in the vicinity. The fact that the vehicles did not overturn due to the impact of the landslide prevented a major disaster.

NARROWLY AVOIDED DISASTER

Local authorities stated that the slide occurred suddenly and that it was a great stroke of luck that the vehicles did not overturn. While security measures were further increased following the incident, an investigation has been launched into how the accident occurred.
