Landslide occurs in İliç: Statement from the Governor's Office
Nine people lost their lives in a landslide at the Çöpler Gold Mine in İliç, Erzincan. Another landslide has occurred at the same site. Erzincan Governor Hamza Aydoğdu made a statement regarding the incident.

Following the incident on February 13, 2024, at the mine in the İliç district, where 9 workers were trapped under soil, the bodies of 4 workers were recovered over time, and controlled operations were continuing on-site to reach the remaining 5 workers.
While AFAD teams were continuing their work in a controlled manner due to rainy weather, a landslide that occurred today in the area under AFAD's control, which had already been evacuated, was captured on a mobile phone camera. There was no loss of life in the incident.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
Erzincan Governor Hamza Aydoğdu made the following statement regarding the landslide:
"At the İliç mine, following a warning from the GeoRadar alert group, a section of soil was brought down in a controlled manner after the area had been evacuated.
Following the controlled soil removal, operations are continuing from where they left off."
