The omnibus bill, which includes the regulation that will increase the lowest pension from 14,469 TL to 16,881 TL, has passed in Parliament.

During the deliberations at the TBMM General Assembly, DEVA Party Istanbul MP Elif Esen stated in her speech regarding the proposal that raising the lowest pension to 16,881 TL as of July 2025 is mocking the retirees, adding, “Today, the hunger threshold announced by Türk-İş is 26,115 TL. Retirees are being forced to live far below this threshold. This picture means an assault on human dignity.”

Continuing her speech, Esen said, “I am very angry. I am very sad. I am very ashamed. Because the trust received on behalf of the nation is not being managed correctly and fairly,” and expressed, “Today, the figure that should be the lowest pension should not have been below 35,000 TL.”

As Esen was speaking, laughter erupted from the AKP benches. Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Bekir Bozdağ reacted to the AKP MPs laughing.

Bekir Bozdağ said the following:

"Dear MPs, I beg you, look, this is not a place to laugh, it is not a coffeehouse. It is not a place for private conversation either. I invite our MP who is laughing to leave. This is a great disrespect. How can such a thing happen? Where do we stand? We are not at a picnic, we are in the General Assembly. We all need to respect each other. We are warning you repeatedly. Our friend who is laughing, please leave, and thus show your respect to the General Assembly."

"I LEAVE THE OWNERS OF THE LAUGHTER TO THE CONSCIENCE OF THE NATION"

Esen shared a message on social media regarding what happened during her speech and said, “I leave the owners of the laughter that erupted from the AKP benches while I was defending the rights of retirees at the podium to the conscience of the nation!”
