Lawsuit against DEM Party Esenyurt district co-chairs: Up to 15 years in prison requested

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has requested up to 15 years in prison for Abdullah Arınan and Rojda Yılmaz in an indictment prepared as part of an investigation into alleged links to the PKK/KCK terrorist organization.
ALLEGATION OF TERRORIST ORGANIZATION PROPAGANDA
The prosecution alleged that an event held at the DEM Party District Headquarters in Esenyurt contained propaganda in favor of terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The investigation, which was launched after footage from the event was shared in a report published on the Jinnews news site on November 17, 2024, stated that materials linked to the organization were seized.
FOUR-PILLAR PARADIGM AND ÖCALAN'S INSTRUCTIONS
The indictment stated that terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan developed a strategy under the name of the four-pillar paradigm and that the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) were implemented in line with this strategy.
It was stated that these structures aimed to implement a strategy of democratic autonomy and to gain a base for the organization.
ACTIONS UNDER THE GUISE OF POLITICAL ACTIVITY
It was noted that Arınan and Yılmaz acted consciously within the hierarchical structure of the organization, played an active role in illegal events, and organized terrorist commemoration events at the party building.
The prosecution argued that these actions could not be considered political activities and that they had organic ties to the organization.
REQUEST FOR UP TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON
In the prepared indictment, prison sentences of 6 to 15 years each were requested for Abdullah Arınan and Rojda Yılmaz on charges of membership in an armed terrorist organization and making propaganda for a terrorist organization.
Within the scope of the case, attention was drawn to the attempts of the organization's structures to include marginal groups in the west of Turkey, and it was emphasized that these activities are being closely monitored.
