Lawsuit from CHP's former US representative Yurter Özcan: He is demanding 1.6 million dollars from the CHP

Yurter Özcan, the former US Representative for the CHP, has filed a lawsuit against the party, citing that his wages were not paid. Özcan stated, "I was forced to file a lawsuit for receivables in the US on December 30, 2024, against the current administration of the Republican People's Party (CHP), of which I have been a member for 15 years and for which I served as the US Representative for 11 years."

Özcan, whose tenure was terminated last year, has taken the party to court in Washington D.C. on the grounds that his wages were not paid.

According to the report in Oda TV, Özcan is demanding 1.6 million dollars from the CHP in the lawsuit he filed.

It is stated that the CHP, in the defense it submitted to the court, requested additional time by citing certain ongoing lawsuits in Turkey.

HE WAS APPOINTED DURING THE KILIÇDAROĞLU ERA

Özcan was appointed as the US representative in 2013 by the then-Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

In this capacity, Özcan established an organization called "CHP Representation to the United States, LLC" and carried out the party's representation in the US for 11 years.

Özcan's tenure ended last year.

Yurter Özcan's social media post regarding the matter is as follows:

"Respectfully announced to the public:

- I was forced to file a lawsuit for receivables in the US on December 30, 2024, against the current administration of the Republican People's Party (CHP), of which I have been a member for 15 years and for which I served as the US Representative for 11 years.

- After Mr. Özgür Özel became Chairman, no budget was provided to the CHP US Representation for approximately 1 year.

- The CHP US Representation, an official institution registered with the US Department of Justice, fulfilled all its activities during this process despite no budget being sent.

- During this process, in order to prevent the party from falling into a difficult situation and to ensure its activities in the US were not disrupted, I personally covered all expenses, including taxes, salaries, and all operational costs, primarily those involving the US Department of the Treasury, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the US Department of Justice. During that process, I did not share this problem with anyone other than party officials.

- Although written and verbal discussions were held with the CHP Headquarters, unfortunately, no budget was sent, no expenses were covered, and no effort was made toward a resolution. While all this was ongoing and I was covering a year's worth of receivables and expenses out of my own pocket, I even learned of the decision to close the Representation from the television.

- The lawsuit is ongoing in the US. In the ongoing legal process in the US, Headquarters executives, primarily Özgür Özel, Selin Sayek Böke, and Özgür Karabat, will also be called to testify as witnesses in the US court, and a jury trial will be held. There will also be a legal process regarding those responsible, both as individuals and as legal entities, in the Turkish leg of the file."
