Lawyer Buket Nurşah Tekışık, registered with the Istanbul Bar Association, continues to be a hot topic after sharing photos taken in the office of a prosecutor at the Çağlayan Courthouse on her social media account with the caption, "I never lose, I either win or learn."
PROSECUTOR'S POSTING CHANGED
Following this post by Tekışık, the Ministry of Justice took action, and the prosecutor's place of duty was changed. After the incident, Lawyer Tekışık first closed her posts to comments and then set her Instagram account to private.
Tekışık, who closed her accounts, stated, "The photo I had taken is like a souvenir photo. A lawyer friend of mine took it. The prosecutor was not in the office at that time; we took this photo while the room was empty. The quote I shared under that photo is also a line from a book."
However, this explanation did not save Tekışık. A file was sent to the Union of Turkish Bar Associations for disciplinary investigation, and an investigation was also launched by the Istanbul Bar Association against lawyer Buket Nurşah Tekışık.
LUXURIOUS LIFESTYLE SURFACES ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Following the incident's reflection in the media, Buket Nurşah Tekışık's luxurious lifestyle also became a topic of conversation on social media. Although Tekışık closed the accounts where her posts were located, her past posts resurfaced.
VIDEO RESPONSE TO ALL ALLEGATIONS: MY FAMILY IS WEALTHY
Buket Nurşah Tekışık responded to the allegations against her with a video. In the video she released, Tekışık expressed the following:
"For a while, a lynching policy has been carried out against me on social media in a meaningless way, and baseless news is being made. Things I did not say/lies/incorrect things are being written as if they were from my own mouth just to get engagement.
A necessity has arisen to make a statement and respond to these news reports that are unnecessarily occupying the country's agenda. I saw that some very ugly posts were made by cutting in half a few photos I shared from the courthouse and a quote I wrote underneath, interpreting them with malicious intent.
"MY LICENSE PLATE DOES NOT CHANGE EVEN IF MY CAR DOES"
I am a 28-year-old lawyer who graduated from Cyprus International University. I have never made a statement to anyone until today that I graduated from another university. I have been using a single license plate and vehicle in the form of BKT for a long time.
Even if the vehicles I use change, my license plate does not. All the vehicles I have used from the past to the present, which have the same license plate attached, are being shared as if I have many vehicles. There are tens of thousands of wealthy people in the country who go on vacation abroad and rent cars, and share photos from luxury venues and holiday spots.
MY FAMILY'S FINANCIAL STATUS WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO EDUCATE ME ABROAD
There are many colleagues who share photos from the courthouse. An impression is being created as if I committed a crime and earned money that way, or as if I started living luxuriously because of that. My family's financial situation was above average, sufficient to educate me abroad and send me on vacations even when I was a student. I have never had a conversation with anyone about my financial situation being bad or having debts.
I have never worked on any file related to terrorism and organized crime, which falls under the jurisdiction of the prosecutor whose office waiting room I was in when I took the photo that is the subject of the news. I have not had any communication with any judicial official that would constitute a crime.
I chose to stay away from social media for a while to avoid seeing the insulting comments of thousands of citizens and unfortunately my colleagues who do not act cautiously, and the ugly accusations that should not be directed at a young woman, so as not to give a reaction that I would regret later.
"I APOLOGIZE TO ALL OF YOU"
I will immediately apply for legal remedies against those who make baseless news about me, make posts containing insults, and likewise share my photos and private information that are currently not accessible anywhere without my consent.
This is the only statement I have made on this subject to date. I am as uncomfortable as you are that a photo, which I never guessed would grow this much, has been occupying an agenda where there are much more important issues for a few days, and for this reason, I apologize to all of you on my own behalf."
