Lawyer Feyza Altun acquitted

Appearing before the judge at the Beykoz 5th Criminal Court of First Instance, Altun announced that she had been acquitted in the case of insulting the president.

Lawyer Feyza Altun, who was detained in recent months due to a social media post regarding Sharia and released after giving her statement, has been acquitted in the case of insulting the president.

Appearing before the judge at the Beykoz 5th Criminal Court of First Instance, Altun announced that she had been acquitted in the case of insulting the president. Sharing the news of her acquittal on social media, Altun drew attention to the outfit she wore specifically for the hearing and used the following expressions:

Making a statement to members of the press after her acquittal, Altun said, "Today, thanks to secular legal rules, a female prosecutor sitting in the office of the Chief Public Prosecutor requested that I be punished at the upper limit and asked me if I regretted it; I told her I did not regret it. For this reason, I was given a 9-month prison sentence. Of course, I will take this decision to a higher court."

'Turkey is a secular country and will remain secular; it will not be governed by Sharia'

Altun stated, "Turkey is a country governed by a 'Republic' regime. A regime like 'Sharia' will never exist in this country. I repeat what I have said from the beginning. I will appeal this decision. I would like to reiterate that I do not adopt any ideology that would set back women's rights in the Republic of Turkey and that I will fight against it."
