Lawyer Kemal Polat explains the prosecutor's letter to 12punto: The political ban case against İmamoğlu

Lawyer Kemal Polat, representing Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, provided information on the current status of the case filed against İmamoğlu for allegedly calling YSK members 'fools', despite three expert reports stating the contrary.

In his statement to 12punto, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's lawyer Kemal Polat stated that this case should have been opened upon the complaint of former Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu. Polat alleged that the prosecutor's office is avoiding filing the case and is deliberately delaying the process.

Polat stated, "A case should be opened regarding Süleyman Soylu's complaint, but the prosecutor's office is likely waiting for the decision of the Court of Appeal because they think the case will collapse. I interpret their failure to open the case that should be opened, and their delaying of it, as waiting for the file at the Court of Appeal to be finalized," he said.

HE HAD TAKEN IT TO THE COURT OF APPEAL

Lawyer Kemal Polat had taken the prison sentence given to Ekrem İmamoğlu by the court of first instance in the 'fool' case to the Court of Appeal.

Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk, who stated that the final status of the İmamoğlu case is being wondered about in these days when early elections and presidential candidacy are being discussed, reported that the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Special Investigation Bureau sent a letter to the 24th Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice (Court of Appeal) on July 1, 2024, and received the following response signed by the President of the Court:

“Information has been requested regarding the status of our case file registered in our chamber with the file number 2023/503, and the case file with the file number 2023/503 of our Chamber is still awaiting assignment for review, and no decision has been made yet.”

Meanwhile, TBMM Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın commented on his social media account regarding İmamoğlu's 'fool' case, saying, 'We know what you are doing, we are watching'.
