Lawyers for Berkin Elvan's family to file criminal complaint against Osman Gökçek

Lawyers for Berkin Elvan's family have announced that they will file a criminal complaint against AK Party Ankara MP Osman Gökçek for targeting Berkin Elvan in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. In a statement titled “Enough is enough, leave both Berkin and the Elvan family alone,” it was stated: “This individual is actually not worth taking into account or dealing with. However, we will still file that criminal complaint. If not today, then tomorrow, everyone responsible for Berkin's murder, along with everyone who uses their small minds to smear Berkin, will be held accountable for their actions.”

The statement, published on their X account regarding the matter, began with the words “Enough is enough, leave both Berkin and the Elvan family alone.”

The statement recalled that the sentence of police officer Fatih Dalgalı, who shot Berkin in the head, has still not been upheld, and said, “Since the day Berkin was shot, instead of doing what is necessary to prosecute those who shot him and those who gave the orders, the then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who boasted by saying ‘I gave the order’ and had his mother booed in public squares, and those who take courage from him, have continued to target Berkin and his family for years.”

“EVERYONE WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS”

The statement continued as follows:

“The latest of these attacks, which have been ongoing for exactly 10 years, has come from a person named Osman Gökçek, whose name being mentioned alongside Berkin's could even be considered an insult to humanity, and who is striving to fully continue his father's legacy in every field. This person, in a speech he made, dared to take Berkin's name into his mouth. No matter who makes what insult, Berkin Elvan has been buried in the heart of this country and, as in that commonly used phrase, he truly lives in our hearts with all our faith and love.”

The lawyers stated that they would file a criminal complaint against Gökçek and said, “If not today, then tomorrow, everyone responsible for Berkin's murder, along with everyone who uses their small minds to smear Berkin, will be held accountable for their actions.”
