Lawyers to gather in Ankara on April 27 for their rights
Bar associations across the country and the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) are preparing for the "Great Defense Rally" to be held in Ankara on Saturday, April 27. Lawyers from all provinces of Turkey will gather in front of the TBB in Ankara at 10:30 AM on April 27 and march to Anıtpark at 11:00 AM. Istanbul Bar Association President Atty. Filiz Saraç stated in her announcement that the Bar Association would provide buses from many points in Istanbul, and called on all lawyers to come to Ankara, saying, "Let us be together at the Great Defense Rally, let us be strong together."
Saraç said, "A strong lawyer is needed for the right to access justice, and a strong Bar Association is needed for a strong lawyer. The lawyer is the defender of the citizen's rights, and the Bar Association is the defender of the lawyer. The Bar Association is not just a professional organization; it is the follower of citizens' rights and freedoms, primarily the right to a fair trial. If the Bar Association and the lawyer become weak, the citizens and the legal order suffer the most. That is why, on Saturday, April 27, we will be in Ankara as Istanbul Bar Association lawyers, together with our colleagues coming from all four corners of our country. As all lawyers who have put their hearts and efforts into the struggle for rights, we will say 'Enough is enough'," she expressed.
Listing the problems of lawyers and their demands, Bar Association President Atty. Filiz Saraç noted the following:
"We want the quality of both our profession and justice services to be increased through qualified legal education.
We want the CMK (Code of Criminal Procedure) Fee Schedule to be at a level that covers the lawyer's effort and labor, and we want not only a Legal Professions Entrance Exam but also a Bar Exam after the internship.
As the basis of our professional activity, we want the establishment of judicial independence, compliance with the principle of the rule of law, an end to violence against lawyers, and the punishment of perpetrators of violence with the heaviest sanctions.
We want an increase in legal aid allowances and a VAT reduction for legal services, especially in CMK and legal aid payments.
We want the reputation of our profession to be protected.
We want the personal rights of public lawyers to be regulated by law.
We want the salary for intern lawyers to be covered by the Treasury and the legal status of employed lawyers to be secured.
We want to prevent the narrowing of the work areas of the legal profession.
We want an end to unlawful activities that violate the lawyer's monopoly right as well as the citizen's right to a fair trial.
We want our professional activities not to be hindered on grounds such as the protection of personal data.
We want legal mechanisms to be implemented that will increase the revenues of Bar Associations.
We want equality among the constituent elements of the judiciary and fair representation power for the defense."
