LEMAN Magazine issues statement following controversial cartoon: 'The righteousness of the Muslim people'

Following the backlash, Leman Magazine published an apology message on its social media account. In the statement, which noted that the cartoon was misunderstood, it was stated, "The cartoonist here intended to depict the righteousness of the oppressed Muslim people by focusing on a Muslim killed by Israel, and there is absolutely no intention to denigrate religious values."

A statement has been issued by Leman magazine regarding the controversial cartoon.

The full text of the statement is as follows:

"The most common names in the world, with the highest population, are Muhammad, Mehmet, and Mamadu (all given by Muslims to keep the name of our Prophet alive). There are currently 200 million people bearing the name Muhammad.

The cartoonist here intended to depict the righteousness of the oppressed Muslim people by focusing on a Muslim killed by Israel, and there is absolutely no intention to denigrate religious values.

We do not accept the stain cast upon us, as there is no depiction of our Prophet. One must be very ill-intentioned to interpret the cartoon in such a way. How many people named Mehmet or Muhammad do you know? The Turkish soldier is 'Mehmetçik' (Little Mehmet). It comes from the Prophet's hearth. We know and understand the sensitivity. We condemn those who cause misunderstandings and those who are provocative. We invite our well-intentioned brothers and sisters who are protesting to understand us correctly.

We apologize to our well-intentioned readers who we believe were hurt by being exposed to provocations.
