Licensing allegations for the hospital where a baby died in Istanbul: Was an investigation conducted?

CHP Bursa Deputy Kayıhan Pala has submitted a parliamentary question to Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu to bring the incident to the Parliament's agenda, following the death of a baby due to a ceiling collapse at the Prof. Dr. Murat Dilmener Emergency Hospital in Yeşilköy. Drawing attention to the hospital's licensing status and infrastructure problems, Pala emphasized that those responsible for the incident must be identified.

DOES THE HOSPITAL HAVE A LICENSE?

Recalling that Court of Accounts reports stated that five health facilities affiliated with the Ministry of Health were operating without a license or temporary license, Pala asked about the licensing status of the Prof. Dr. Murat Dilmener Emergency Hospital. Stating that the hospital began to be used by the Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine before it was made suitable for the provision of tertiary health services, Pala asked, "Does this hospital have a license? If so, on what date was it issued?"

NO TECHNICAL OR INFRASTRUCTURAL RENOVATION WAS CARRIED OUT 

CHP Bursa Deputy Kayıhan Pala stated that no technical renovation had been carried out since the hospital's opening and that infrastructure problems had been frequently voiced by healthcare workers and professional organizations. Expressing that the hot water pipe explosion in the neonatal intensive care unit on August 4, 2024, caused a collapse in the suspended ceiling, leading to the death of a baby, Pala said that the Ministry should be transparent and accountable following the incident.

Pala asked whether the hospital was designed as a field hospital model and why it was not made suitable for the provision of tertiary health services before being used by the Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. He also stated that he wanted to learn why the hot water plumbing was routed through the ceiling and whether this situation was specified in the project.

WAS AN INVESTIGATION CONDUCTED?

Kayıhan Pala asked whether any investigation had been conducted by the Ministry of Health following the incident and whether those responsible had been identified. He also expressed his curiosity about whether some parts of the hospital were still being used by the Ministry of Health. In his parliamentary question, Pala sought answers to 8 different questions, emphasizing that the Ministry should take responsibility for the incident that occurred.
