Namık Öztürk, the lawyer for Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu, who was dismissed from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), has responded to the statement by National Defense University (MSÜ) Rector Erhan Afyoncu, who claimed, "All the allegations put forward by Müyesser Yıldız based on Namık Öztürk are lies. I have not had any action or words as alleged."

The reinstatement lawsuit of Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu, who was dismissed from the TSK on the grounds that she led the recitation of the officer's oath and chanted the slogan 'We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal' after the Military Academy Graduation Ceremony, has been rejected.

In his defense at the court, Öztürk stated that after the “We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal” slogan, MSÜ Rector Erhan Afyoncu gave instructions to the officials to “Go and take photos.” Öztürk alleged that Afyoncu served the footage to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan by saying, "These swords are being drawn at you."

AFYONCU DENIED THE REPORT, TARGETED MÜYESSER YILDIZ

MSÜ Rector Afyoncu denied this report, which became a major topic of discussion, and targeted our columnist Müyesser Yıldız.

Afyoncu claimed that Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu's lawyer, Namık Öztürk, did not make such a statement during the hearing.


RESPONSE FROM LAWYER ÖZTÜRK TO MSÜ RECTOR AFYONCU

In his response to Afyoncu's statement, Lawyer Öztürk stated, “Journalist Müyesser Yıldız did not write anything in her article dated 03.23.2026 that was not said by me in the hearing.”

Öztürk's statement is as follows:

“MANDATORY STATEMENT.

A statement has become necessary in response to the post made by the MSÜ Rector on the X platform on 03.24.2026. 

Firstly; Journalist Müyesser Yıldız did not write anything in her article dated 03.23.2026 that was not said by me in the hearing. 

Secondly; Although the Rector stated in his explanation that “I have not had any action or words as alleged,” there are disciplinary investigation documents regarding the incident in the case file. The relevant section of the statement by the Deputy Dean, which is among these documents, is as follows;

“… Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Erhan AFYONCU, who had gone outside to see off the President, called me on the phone and said, 'Are you in the stands?' After I said 'yes,' he said, 'What is happening on the field, follow it.' I then sent the photographer waiting in the stands to the field and told him to record the events.”
