At the Tuzla Infantry School, seven lieutenants were referred to disciplinary action with a request for dismissal following a dispute that began when a lieutenant did not wear an Atatürk photograph at the November 10 Ceremony.
The dismissal of the lieutenants, whose expulsion from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) is being sought, was discussed yesterday at the Land Forces Command High Disciplinary Board (YDK) meeting.
4 LIEUTENANTS PROVIDED DEFENSE, 2 DID NOT
According to the report by Ersin Eroğlu from 10 Haber; Four lieutenants who reacted to the lieutenant who did not pin an Atatürk photograph to his lapel provided their defense, while the lieutenant who did not wear the Atatürk photograph and the two lieutenants who supported him did not go to provide a defense.
The other four lieutenants who reacted to the lieutenants who did not wear the Atatürk photograph on their lapels provided defenses of approximately 30 seconds each. The lawyers' defense, however, lasted four hours. The lawyers raised objections regarding both procedure and substance.
While the lawyers stated that it was procedurally inappropriate not to be given a copy of the file, the lieutenants stated that there was no crime in their actions. The High Disciplinary Board is expected to notify the lieutenants of its decision in writing within one month.

"The decision regarding the 7 lieutenants whose dismissal from the TSK is requested due to the events that occurred after a lieutenant did not wear an Atatürk photograph at the Atatürk Commemoration Ceremony on November 10 at the Tuzla Infantry School will be made tomorrow.
At the meeting to be held tomorrow by the Land Forces Command High Disciplinary Board (YDK), the defenses of the lieutenants and their lawyers will be taken first. Then, the board members will reach a decision by voting. However, the decision made will not be announced tomorrow, but rather within an estimated 7-10 days after the justification is written."
WHAT HAPPENED?
A fight broke out between the lieutenant who did not wear an Atatürk photograph on his lapel at the November 10 ceremony and the lieutenants who reacted to this, and on November 13, some lieutenants hung an Atatürk poster on the door of dormitory number 405, where the lieutenants who did not wear Atatürk photographs were staying.
A scuffle occurred between the lieutenants who reacted to the Atatürk poster and the lieutenants who hung the poster. After the scuffle, Infantry Lieutenant A.A., who did not wear an Atatürk poster on his lapel on November 10, went to Tuzla State Hospital to obtain a medical report for assault. When he was given a report stating that no signs of assault were found at the hospital, he went to the Tuzla Police Station to file a complaint.
Following these developments, the Land Forces Command launched an administrative investigation. In the report prepared by the Disciplinary Investigation Committee on December 5, the dismissal of the four lieutenants who reacted to those who did not wear Atatürk photographs was requested.
The Disciplinary Investigation Committee also requested the dismissal of the three lieutenants staying in dormitory number 405.
According to information reached by 10Haber, the colonel who is the regimental commander responsible for the lieutenants and a first lieutenant who is the company commander were also suspended from duty after the incident.
