33 people, including writers and artists, were burned to death in the hotel where they were staying in Sivas. As a result of the events, 2 hotel staff and 2 protesters also died, and a total of 37 people lost their lives.

On July 2, 1993, the group of 51 people, mostly Alevis and leftists who were in Sivas for the Pir Sultan Abdal Festivals, included well-known names such as Aziz Nesin, Metin Altıok, Hasret Gültekin, Asım Bezirci, and Nesimi Çimen.
