Loan shark operation in Ankara and Kayseri: 15 suspects apprehended

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya shared information regarding the operation conducted against loan sharks on his social media account.

Yerlikaya stated the following in his post:

"15 suspects were apprehended in operations organized against loan sharks in Ankara and Kayseri.

It was determined that the suspects, who committed the crime of loan sharking in operations organized by our Ankara Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Bureau in Ankara and Kayseri:

Forcibly obtained checks and promissory notes from victims, initiated enforcement proceedings regarding the checks and notes they obtained, and seized the victims' assets through foreclosure,

Went to the victims' workplaces and residences to pressure and threaten them in order to collect the money they had lent at high interest rates,

Obtained approximately 30 million Turkish Liras in illicit gains from 107 victims in 93 separate loan sharking incidents according to initial findings,

Acted in groups and, when a request for interest-bearing money came to them, asked each other whether the victim was reliable in terms of payment, and directed victims to one another, collecting their own receivables by making the victims indebted to another loan shark.

Searches were conducted at 15 residences and 2 workplaces in the simultaneously organized operations. A large number of promissory notes and documents were seized during the searches.

Of the 15 apprehended suspects, 5 were arrested, and judicial control measures were imposed on 10."
