Local election decision in the Official Gazette: March 31, 2024 date finalized

The Supreme Election Council's decision on local elections has been published in the Official Gazette. Accordingly, the elections will officially be held as the General Local Administration Elections on Sunday, March 31, 2024.

The decision published in the Official Gazette included the following statements:

"Pursuant to the provision in the first paragraph of Article 8 of Law No. 2972 on Local Administrations and Neighborhood Headmen and Council of Elders Elections, which states: 'Local administration elections are held every five years. The first day of January of the fifth year of each election period is the start date of the election. The last Sunday of March of the same year is the voting day,' the General Local Administration Elections will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2024."

The decision also reported that it was decided to set the number of voters in a ballot box district at 350.

The decision included the following statements:

"For this reason, since voters will cast their votes in one ballot box for at least two types of elections in the General Local Administration Elections, and taking into account the principle of economy, it has been deemed necessary to decide that the number of voters in a ballot box district shall be set at 350 (three hundred and fifty) for the General Local Administration Elections to be held on March 31, 2024, in accordance with the fifteenth clause of the first paragraph of Article 14 of Law No. 298."
