The local election process begins tomorrow! Here is the step-by-step election calendar

For the Local Administration Elections to be held on Sunday, March 31, 2024, the printing of neighborhood voter registration lists will begin on January 2, and the political parties eligible to participate in the election will be announced by the YSK. Political parties will submit their lists of prospective candidates by January 31, and the final lists of candidates will be announced on March 3.

The election process for the Local Administration Elections to be held on Sunday, March 31, 2024, begins tomorrow.

All tasks and procedures from the start of the election until the day of voting will be carried out according to the election calendar announced by the Supreme Election Council (YSK).

According to the election calendar for the Local Administration Elections to be held on Sunday, March 31, 2024, data retrieval and updates from MERNIS, which is used to update voter registries, will be suspended starting tomorrow.

The printing of neighborhood voter registration lists will begin on January 2, and the political parties eligible to participate in the election will also be announced by the YSK on January 2.

On January 3, political parties will be asked to notify the YSK of the electoral districts in which they will compete and the procedures and principles they will use to determine their candidates. On January 4, neighborhood voter registration lists, as well as lists for detainees and those convicted of negligent crimes, will be posted by district election boards for updates.

Applications will also begin for voters who are bedridden due to illness or disability to vote using mobile ballot boxes.

The other stages of the election calendar are as follows:

JANUARY 10

Parties will notify the YSK by the end of the workday of the electoral districts in which they will compete and the procedures and principles they will use to determine their candidates.

JANUARY 17

Neighborhood voter registration lists and lists for detainees and those convicted of negligent crimes will be taken down. Objections regarding these lists will end.

This date is the final day to query voter registration records by building via the YSK and the e-Government Gateway.

This is also the final day for voters who are bedridden due to illness or disability to have a relative apply to the district election board presidency—or to a neighborhood headman (muhtar) to be forwarded to the district election board presidency—with a mobile ballot box request form to vote using mobile ballot boxes.

JANUARY 27

A lottery will be held and announced by the YSK to determine the placement of political parties on the combined ballot paper.

JANUARY 31

The final day for political parties to submit their lists of prospective candidates to the relevant election boards.

FEBRUARY 7

Voter registries will be finalized, and the process of determining the locations and ballot boxes where voters will cast their votes will begin.

FEBRUARY 11

The determination of the locations and ballot boxes where voters will cast their votes will be completed.

FEBRUARY 16

Provincial election boards will begin the necessary preliminary preparations regarding the printing of combined ballot papers.

FEBRUARY 20

Political party district presidencies will organize and submit their lists for mayoral, municipal council, and provincial general assembly memberships by 17:00.

Independent candidates must also submit their applications for candidacy by 17:00 at the latest.

FEBRUARY 22

The final day for political parties to complete any deficiencies in their candidate lists.

FEBRUARY 23

Provisional candidate lists will be announced.

The printing and distribution of voter information slips will begin.
