Haymana Mayor Levent Koç joined the AKP following his departure from the CHP. His party badge was pinned on him by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the AKP Ankara Organization Meeting.
Levent Koç, whose name had been mentioned for some time in Ankara political circles among CHP mayors rumored to be joining the AKP, had also drawn attention when he visited Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum on June 17 alongside Gölbaşı Mayor Yakup Odabaşı.
According to Halk TV columnist İsmail Saymaz, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated that Koç had come to the municipality two days ago and recounted the meeting that took place. Yavaş used the expressions, “He wanted to kiss my hand, I didn't let him. He left as if nothing had happened. He said, 'Just patting my back is enough, I have no business with anyone. When I do something well, just say you did well, that's enough.'”
“HE SAID HE WOULD NOT JOIN”
Mansur Yavaş stated that he asked Levent Koç about the allegations that he would join the AKP, and that Koç told them he had no such intention. Yavaş noted that after this meeting, he sent a message to Koç saying, “If you are not going to join, make a statement,” but that no statement was made.
“HE RECEIVED SUPPORT UNSEEN IN ITS HISTORY”
Expressing that Levent Koç had come out ahead in polls conducted in Haymana, Yavaş emphasized that he had also provided support during the election process, saying, “He received support unseen in its history because of me.”
STATEMENT REGARDING BANNERS IN HAYMANA
Speaking about the removal of banners featuring Mansur Yavaş in Haymana, Yavaş alleged that Koç had made remarks to the effect of “I did everything myself.” Stating that the Metropolitan Municipality provides various services to the districts, Yavaş said, “We were also having things done, we hung up the posters. Since he was uncomfortable, we took them down.”
STATEMENT REGARDING OTHER MAYORS
When asked about allegations that the mayors of Gölbaşı, Kalecik, and Nallıhan would also join the AKP, Yavaş stated that there were demands directed at these individuals but that there was no decision to leave, saying, “There are demands for all of them, but they are not giving in. They wouldn't leave without asking me anyway.”
