As part of an investigation conducted by the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an operation was carried out against the Furkan Foundation, known in the public eye as the "Kuytulcular" and led by Alparslan Kuytul.
Teams from the Adana Provincial Police Department conducted a simultaneous dawn operation yesterday morning across 6 provinces at 49 addresses. Detention warrants were issued for 32 suspects, including Alparslan Kuytul and his wife Semra Kuytul, on various charges. The Kuytul couple was also detained.
HAKAN KUYTUL'S FETÖ CASE EMERGES
Following the operation, information surfaced that Alparslan Kuytul's nephew, Hakan Kuytul, had been tried in 2021 at the Adana 11th High Criminal Court as part of a FETÖ/PDY investigation.
The indictment prepared against Hakan Kuytul by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terrorism Crimes Investigation Bureau mentioned digital materials seized at the home of Nihat K., who was identified as the "Marmara Regional Handler" in FETÖ's covert gendarmerie structure in Istanbul a few months after the coup attempt.
A program was detected on a flash drive and SD card containing information about individuals stated to be serving in the Gendarmerie General Command's covert structure of the organization.
REQUEST FOR UP TO 22.5 YEARS IN PRISON IN THE INDICTMENT
Based on the information obtained from the program, it was stated that Hakan Kuytul was assessed to have been involved in the FETÖ/PDY armed terrorist organization's covert gendarmerie structure. Witness statements in the file also indicated that Kuytul operated as a high-level handler in the covert services class of the organization's gendarmerie structure.
The indictment requested a prison sentence of up to 22.5 years for Hakan Kuytul for the crime of "establishing and managing an armed terrorist organization."
BENEFITED FROM EFFECTIVE REMORSE PROVISIONS
During the hearing of the case held at the Adana 11th High Criminal Court, the public prosecutor presented his final opinion. The prosecutor stated that the defendant operated within FETÖ as a "covert gendarmerie handler," met with military personnel in line with instructions received from the organization's so-called high-level executives, and transferred the "himmet" (donations) he collected to his superiors.
The opinion also stated that Hakan Kuytul had been called sequentially from fixed and payphone lines on various dates, and that there were consistent witness statements and identifications regarding him.
It was noted that Hakan Kuytul, who accepted the accusations against him, provided useful information regarding FETÖ's structure and crimes committed within the scope of the organization. The prosecutor requested that the defendant be sentenced for the crime of "membership in an armed terrorist organization" within the scope of effective remorse provisions, taking this situation into account.
The court panel decided that he should benefit from effective remorse provisions and sentenced Hakan Kuytul to 2 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "membership in an armed terrorist organization."
