Economist Mahfi Eğilmez stated that regarding the current situation of citizenship granted through real estate sales to foreigners, those who bought homes 5 years ago have sold them for double the price and received citizenship on top of it. Former Treasury Undersecretary Dr. Mahfi Eğilmez, who makes notable assessments regarding the Turkish economy, expressed his reaction on social media to the issue of those granted Republic of Turkey (TC) citizenship in exchange for purchasing homes. Eğilmez stated that foreigners who obtained citizenship by paying 250 thousand dollars or more in foreign currency sold their homes for double the price after 5 years, and that Turkey has gone down in history as the only country that distributes citizenship by paying on top of it.
