Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the first phase of the Sabiha Gökçen Airport Terminal 1 Renovation Project will enter service on December 28, 2025. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the terminal building and the main terminal will be integrated, and the new project aims to meet passenger demand.
CONNECTION BRIDGE
While detailing the innovations in the project, Minister Uraloğlu said, "The main terminal building has been integrated with Terminal 1 via a 240-meter-long connection bridge. This will allow passengers to experience a faster and more comfortable transition." Following this integration, Terminal 1 has been designated as the satellite terminal of the airport's main terminal.
PASSENGER NUMBERS RISING, CAPACITY STRENGTHENING
Drawing attention to the increase in passenger demand at Sabiha Gökçen Airport in recent years, Minister Uraloğlu announced that 41.4 million passengers were served in 2024. While 33 million 716 thousand passengers were served in the first 11 months of 2023, this figure is expected to reach 44 million 217 thousand in the same period of 2025, an increase of 31 percent. Uraloğlu stated that the airport's capacity will be increased to meet this rise in demand.
PARKING CAPACITY EXPANDED
The parking lot reorganization carried out within the scope of the Terminal 1 Renovation Project is also noteworthy. Stating that the Terminal 2 parking capacity has been increased to 5 thousand 229 vehicles with additional open areas, Uraloğlu announced that the Terminal 1 parking capacity has also been increased by 607 vehicles. Thus, the total parking capacity of Sabiha Gökçen Airport has reached 5 thousand 836 vehicles. In addition, landside transportation has been made faster and more comfortable with an intercity bus transfer area with 13 stops integrated into the metro exit.
NEW WAITING LOUNGE
Uraloğlu stated that the remote aircraft waiting lounge, which will open with the first phase of the Terminal 1 Renovation Project, will also offer passengers a new experience. This lounge, which has a seating area of 2 thousand 560 square meters, will have the capacity to serve 10 aircraft simultaneously. The lounge will also include 5 departure gates, a 150-square-meter duty-free area, 100 square meters of food and beverage kiosks, a 430-square-meter children's play area, 400 square meters of wet areas, a prayer room, and ihram changing areas.
WORK CONTINUES ON PHASE 2 AND PHASE 3

The Minister emphasized that with the completion of the project, Sabiha Gökçen Airport will gain significant momentum in terms of both capacity and comfort.
