Shocking details have emerged in a major operation launched on October 6, 2025, against Istanbul Gold Refinery (İAR). The Istanbul Gold Refinery, which ranks 5th among Turkey's top 500 industrial enterprises, has come to the fore with allegations that it prepared fake documents to unfairly obtain state subsidies.
HALF A TON OF GOLD FOUND IN A HOUSE CELLAR
It was claimed that during the operation, over half a ton of gold was found in the cellar of a house belonging to the Istanbul Gold Refinery. 20 people, including company owner Özcan Halaç, General Manager Ayşen Esen, and company employee Erkam Halaç, were arrested. It is stated that the company received subsidies from the state by falsely claiming that imported gold was produced in Turkey, thereby allegedly earning foreign currency.
STATE DEFRAUDED WITH FAKE EXPORT DECLARATIONS
According to the prosecutor's allegations, the Istanbul Gold Refinery caused the state a loss of 12 million dollars by filing 543 million dollars in fake export declarations. It is claimed that Halaç and his team unfairly benefited from the incentives provided by the state.
THE HEIST CARRIED OUT WITH SHELL COMPANIES
According to the report by Timur Soykan, it is alleged that Özcan Halaç carried out the heist by establishing shell companies. The prosecution states that Halaç committed this crime through 17 separate shell companies. Furthermore, it is claimed that even Adnan Başpınar, who worked as a security guard at the company, was made to establish a company, and through this company created under the name "BSPN Demir Çelik Ticaret A.Ş.", an unfair subsidy of 12 million 631 thousand TL was obtained from the state.
SECURITY GUARD MADE TO ESTABLISH A COMPANY
According to the allegations, Adnan Başpınar, a security guard at the Istanbul Gold Refinery, established a company affiliated with the refinery and received state support through this company. By receiving state support, the company committed a serious financial injustice.
