MINISTER GÜRLEK ANNOUNCED

Announcing the details of the operation on social media, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek stated the following:

"Ensuring that our citizens can access basic food products under fair, safe, and reasonable conditions, as well as protecting consumer rights, are among the issues we are most sensitive about. Our Ministries of Justice, Interior, Trade, and Treasury and Finance are acting in coordination and cooperation toward this goal.

A simultaneous judicial operation was carried out in 8 provinces under the coordination of our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding actions evaluated as disrupting market operations in the poultry sector and leading to unfair price increases and consumer grievances.

In order to ensure that our nation's basic food supply chain is not interrupted and that commercial activities are carried out in a lawful, transparent, and auditable manner, trustees have been appointed to oversee 13 companies within the scope of the investigation.

Within the scope of the ongoing investigation; detention, search, and seizure procedures have been applied regarding 32 suspects evaluated as having violated the free competition environment and manipulated prices to the detriment of consumers.

Within the framework of the principles of the rule of law; no irregularities that damage the economic rights of our citizens, attempt to disrupt market order, or aim to provide unfair gain will be tolerated.

I would like to thank our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for meticulously conducting the investigation, our Istanbul Provincial Police Department for carrying out the operations, and the officials of the Competition Authority, the General Directorate of Market Surveillance and Inspection, and MASAK for their valuable contributions during this process."
